About the Team

At Philips Electronic Systems & IoT, part of Product and Systems Engineering within I&S, we are a trusted engineering solutions partner for Philips businesses worldwide.

Our FPGA group consists of highly experienced engineers delivering centrally managed, standardized FPGA solutions to a broad internal customer base. We contribute to advanced healthcare systems including IGT systems, MRI systems, patient monitoring devices, and other high-end medical platforms.

To support the continuous demand for innovation, we are looking for an experienced FPGA Engineer who thrives in a technically deep, dynamic, and globally connected environment.

Your Role and Key Responsibilities

As an FPGA Engineer, you will design and implement FPGA and SoC-based solutions for advanced medical systems. You will work on high-bandwidth streaming applications and high-speed interfaces, applying your expertise to complex signal processing challenges.

You will operate in a global, multicultural organization where assignments may vary — from structured long-term development projects to more dynamic or exploratory engineering challenges.

  • Design, implement, and verify FPGA designs based on customer and product requirements.

  • Participate in requirements definition, architecture, implementation, testing, and release.

  • Develop high-speed designs and interfaces for medical devices.

  • Perform system-level debugging and functional simulations.

  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and participate in design/code reviews.

  • Estimate work, contribute to planning, and maintain personal/team backlogs.

  • Create and maintain specifications and design documentation.

  • Communicate progress clearly and in a structured manner.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience & Technical Background

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Informatics, or equivalent.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience preferred (we will seriously consider candidates with 5+ years of strong relevant experience).

  • Strong expertise in VHDL and/or Verilog.

  • Experience with major FPGA vendors and their toolchains.

  • Proven experience in high-speed design and high-speed interfaces.

  • Experience in industries such as automotive, aerospace, defense, or medical is highly valued.

  • Strong debugging skills using system-level debug and simulation test benches.

  • Experience with version control, CI/CD pipelines, and regression test frameworks.

  • Experience writing specifications and design documentation.

Working Environment & Practical Requirements

  • Home location near Eindhoven is preferred.

  • Hybrid setup: minimum 3 days per week in the office (100% remote is not possible).

  • Comfortable working in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.

  • Flexible and adaptable — assignments may change depending on business needs.

  • Able to navigate organizational dynamics including projects, secondments, and global stakeholder interaction.

Personal Profile

Beyond technical expertise, soft skills are critical in this role.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Communicates fluently in English and enjoys deep technical discussions.

  • Is comfortable interacting with internal customers globally.

  • Can handle both structured projects and less-defined, “messy” engineering challenges.

  • Is honest, self-aware, and motivated by meaningful technical impact.

  • Has a strong drive for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

  • Is open to quality reviews and technical peer feedback.

We are always interested in understanding:

  • What are your ambitions?

  • What are you looking for in your next role?

  • Why do you want to work at Philips?

  • How do you believe you can add value?

The interview process evaluates both technical depth and soft skills to ensure a strong mutual fit.

Why Join Philips?
