Philips Research and Philips product divisions are increasingly implementing data and machine learning techniques which are getting the core of new Philips intelligent solutions. We are looking for a candidate to join the Digital Platform Solutions department of Philips Research to work on applications and data infrastructure within the data science field. The candidate should have knowledge and experience in the broad area of digital technologies and data science.

In this role, you have the opportunity to:
- Apply, adjust and advance the state-of-the SW technologies to build user facing applications on top of data infrastructures and use them to demonstrate applications workflows relevant for Philips products, services and solutions;
- Participate in research projects that aim at unlocking relevant workflows and develop corresponding web applications;
- Align & network with opinion leaders within Philips Research and the Business Sectors;
- Work closely with Philips software, data and other specialists, such as physicists and clinical scientists;
- Explore, experiment and pilot in internal concept creation projects;

You are responsible for
- Design and develop backend services to support client (web, mobile) applications that will facilitate user workflows, particularly in the domain of data collection and data exchange;
- Evaluate application workflows and translate them to technical requirements, iterate with domain experts to implement and demonstrate functional flows;
- Design and develop SW modules that will facilitate data science workflows in the following area: image signal processing (vision), classical, deep, reinforcement, transfer, and active learning as well as distributed parallel computing, by enlarging relevant knowledge and bringing-in new knowledge;
- Keep abreast of technical, application and market developments in the relevant technological and industrial areas, showing interest in the business aspects;
- Contribute to the definition of the department’s research program.

You are a part of
the Digital Platform Solutions department in Research. This department is supporting Philips Research into the digital era through world-class innovations by being a thought leader in the latest technology trends in digital technologies applied to the healthcare domain. The focus of the department is on applying the latest technologies to various healthcare domain areas to support innovation in Philips healthcare businesses.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience
- MSc/PhD in computer science or another relevant area with a strong foundation in computer science and software engineering applied to backend development with proven practice (at least 6 years) using Java/Spring/Hibernate (deployment: Kubernetes, Docker);  Solid understanding of OO programming;
- Pragmatic application of design and architectural patterns, including knowledge of concurrency patterns in Java;
- Familiarity with concepts of MVC, JDBC, and RESTful;
- Ability to write clean, readable code;

- Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application;
- Ability to create domain and process models and database schemas that represent and support business and data science workflows;
- Implementing automated testing and unit tests;
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git and processes like GitFlow; - Familiarity with build tools such as Maven, and Gradle;
- Good CI/CD pipeline experience (using GitLab a plus);
- Good discipline towards documentation;
- Knowledge of FHIR and FHIR databases technology (e.g. Vonk) a plus;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong personal relationships at all levels, both internal and external to Philips Research; with customers, obtain their user needs and be able to transform those into practical solutions;
- Team player in a multidisciplinary and international settings, able to adapt quickly
- This candidate should be flexible, pragmatic, curious, proactive and a fast learner, able to quickly pick up on new areas
