In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Make life better!

To contribute to people’s health and wellbeing by enabling our customers to realize a successful market introduction of their innovative new products.

Our main goal is to develop, realize, and operate robust industrial assembly processes for innovative microelectronic and optics modules. Our unique proposition is that we offer our services and state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities throughout the whole innovation development cycle: technology development, concept investigations, engineering samples for verification or validation purposes, and volume manufacturing.

We do this in close collaboration with our customer’s product development teams, as we believe that a product and its manufacturing process are inseparable and need to be developed simultaneously. This helps us to live up to our commitment to our customers: “We make your innovation work”.

Our international customers range from small start-ups to well established industry leaders in the medical and other high-tech industries.

The products we work on are typically volume produced smart micro devices (or components therefore), often requiring a challenging combination of micro-assembly technologies from the electronics, chip packaging and photonics industries. Typical examples are in- and on-body diagnostic medical devices, MEMS based sensors, and high-end PCBAs for analytical systems.

In our team we are looking for an Optical Assembly Development Engineer, who, based on the product requirements and available assembly technologies and equipment, guides the product development towards a robust assembly process.

When you choose to work at Philips you’ll work on life-changing projects; and contribute to innovative health technologies and solutions that improve billions of lives around the world.

You will be responsible for:

  • Represent Production during all relevant phases of the development of photonic micro devices and provide guidance to the design team with the risks and opportunities of certain design choices.

  • Develop solid assembly processes for photonic micro devices: select the right process and equipment, develop tooling, and determine the optimal process settings, balancing technology, quality, and cost.

  • Drive the implementation and release of the process, incl. validation and verification, solving issues and learning from them.

  • Ensure the acceptance of the process, by listening to concerns, explaining, convincing, and deciding.

  • Ensure good and up to date documentation of the process and implementation thereof, using methods & tools for a structured approach.

  • Contribute to the continuous development of the state of art of the optical assembly technologies.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

You will need a customer-first attitude and the following

  • Bachelor in a relevant technical field (e.g. physics, mechatronics), 0-5 years experience

  • Must have: knowledge of the photonics and optics domain.

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical or electrical engineering.

  • Programming skills in e.g. Matlab and Python

  • Having worked in a technical role in development projects using relevant methodologies is preferred.

  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.

  • Proficient in Business English, Dutch preferred.

You are a part of

Process Development Micro Devices team of the Philips Innovation Engineering group with locations at the High-Tech Campus and at Strijp-S, both in Eindhoven.

Having over 30 years of experience, we team up with our customers to develop and manufacture products within the critical time path, reacting fast and flexible on new insights. We assure integral coupling between supply chain and manufacturing activities.

In return, we offer you:

For this project, you’ll work for Philips and become a contract or permanent employee of a Randstad company. As a contractor at Philips you'll enjoy cutting-edge challenges and unexpected experiences that make you a more in-demand professional.

Why work on a project at Philips?

If you’re looking for meaningful work and a chance to tackle complex challenges, broaden your skills and expertise and become an even more sought after professional, you’ll find all that and more with project work at Philips.
