Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract)
Location: Drachten
Duration: 12 months (with possible extension and/or Philips transfer)
Hours/week: 40
Budget range: €3.500 - 4.700 per month
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

You will be responsible for:
Development, design, check and optimization, realisation and integration, life-cycle management, and verification of elements and parts for Oral Healthcare products such as power toothbrushes, brush heads, oral irrigators, teeth whitening products and associated peripherals.
Product Development works with the focus on user and business requirements, compliance, quality and cost.
Delivering high level and detailed designs in accordance with the product, regulatory and other requirements.
Finalising the design and integration and writing verification plans for the developed elements and parts.
Tests, analyses, and verifies the quality of the design.
Maintaining an outside-in approach for the designs created.
Delivering input in the planning process to the project manager.
Draws up personal schedules and reports on progress in a structured and methodical way.
Ensuring good documentation for regulated devices.
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:
BS or MS in Mechanical, Plastics, Biomedical, or related engineering discipline from an accredited university program or equivalent experience
At least 6 years of Mechanical engineering design/development experience Demonstrated design experience in electro-mechanical product development and material selection for mass manufacturing, in particular injection molded parts, sheet metal parts and small parts assembly.
Demonstrated experience in technical problem solving
Demonstrated good technical documentation skills
Experience with finite element analysis for static and dynamic stresses
Experience with design of experiments
Experience with requirements flow down from customer level to components level Experience with rapid prototyping methods
Preferably experience within a regulated industry (medical devices desirable, along with knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management, FDA Quality System Regulations and ISO 13485). Significant CAD experience, Creo preferred.

Develops (parts and elements of) products, systems and/or solutions according to the V-model that serve user and business requirements amongst others by applying internal and external research results and technology advancements while taking care of the total system as well as inner workings of a design.

The Design Engineer is a member of a 20 people R&D team reporting into the larger R&D group in Oral Healthcare. New products are developed by cross-functional projects teams led by a Project Manager. Every team has one or more Design Engineers as well as electrical/software engineers, manufacturing engineers, marketing manager, industrial designer and product quality engineers, all working together in the same location. The Design Engineers in the team have a broad range of work experience, culture and industries. They are empowered and driven to work together to deliver new innovations that matter. The Design Engineer has regular interaction with local and international manufacturing suppliers as well as technology consultants, with occasional international travel.
