IP Development Engineer Gas Sensing (Contract)

Location: HTC 

Duration Assignment: 1 Year (with possibility of extension)

Contract: via a Randstad company

Hours/week: 40

Budget range: €4.891 - €6.929 per month

In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Make life better!

Within Philips Intellectual Properties & Standards, a project has been initiated to develop new technologies and intellectual property rights related to sensing technology for volatile biomarkers.

The activities will be run in a small R&D team with a diversity of expertise in technology development, business development and licensing.

With the starting point of having a defined future gas sensing architecture, to define and validate relevant gas sensing materials, to conduct tests to optimize performance of such materials and to contribute to the further optimization of the gas sensing architecture to meet the industry requirements including IP generation.

You will be responsible for: 

  • Definition of functional materials and functionalization strategies for volatile organic compound detection.

  • Identification of prospective research areas and exploration thereof.

  • Lead the prototyping activity of the sensor based on application and platform requirements.

  • Characterization of prototypes produced, considering lab work to take up to 50% of the time.

  • General chemical lab management.


To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • MSC/PhD in Chemistry or material science

  • Good knowledge of surface functionalization strategies.

  • Experience working with measurement and characterization techniques such as GC and microscopy, including SEM.

  • Proactive, hands-on, and open-minded, able to deal with high uncertainty and work independently.
