Process Development Engineer (Manufacturing Systems, Innovation Engineering)

In this role, you have the opportunity to use your Mechanical engineering expertise to model, design, test and implement some of the world’s most innovative healthcare products and manufacturing systems within the Machining, Measuring & Materials department. You apply this expertise in an environment with a variety of customers and projects, where system thinking combined with a proactive attitude is vital for success. Your contributions will focus on creating detailed (new) product/process designs or solutions that are suitable for scale-up and volume production. You use your broad knowledge base to communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues in other disciplines like dynamics, thermodynamics, electronics and software.


You are responsible for

  • converting product and system concepts into effective and efficient mechanical solutions.

  • working closely with the lead Process Engineer and/or the Project Manager.

  • maintaining an effective network with customers and suppliers.

  • creating necessary technical documentation.

Machining, Measuring & Materials department, which has a wide range of disciplines and decades of experience and know-how to support our customers in bringing their innovations to market, as fast and as efficiently possible. The Machining, Measuring & Materials department of Philips Innovation & Development is unique in its multi-disciplinary system design approach covering all phases in the product lifecycle. The Machining, Measuring & Materials department has been instrumental to many innovative solutions for our internal and external customers.

Our teams support the Philips businesses in bringing their innovations faster to market. As such we aim to cross-train diversely capable teams and constantly develop competence that are state of art. We are active in product as well as sub-system design, prototyping, measuring and testing. Our projects have a mid- to long-term character, are complex, and can be divided in several sub-projects for the creation of subsystems. In your project you will work under the guidance of a senior process engineer and/or measurement engineer.


To succeed in this role, you’ll need a customer-first attitude and the following

  • MSc degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.

  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills

  • Intrinsically motivated to deep dive into combining mechanics with system engineering and other mechatronic disciplines such as fine mechanics, dynamics & control, thermal behavior/control, materials behavior and metrology (positioning and measurement).

  • Proficient in Python programming.

  • Proficient in 3D CAD

  • Proficient in MS Office tools

  • Basic knowledge of design controls and risk management standards.

  • Basic understanding of design for quality aspects, testing critical to quality and regulatory requirements.
