Development engineer Forming Technologies

The development department is part of the innovation chain of Philips Personal Health in the business Male Grooming. The department contains about 100+ engineers divided in functionally specialized groups and is amongst others responsible for the development of the primary function and realization of metal forming and machining processes, to produce high precision metal parts from plate steel towards complex shapes.

Job-content:

As a development engineer Forming Technologies, you are together with the team, the owner of knowledge necessary to develop and maintain a process within agreed performance indicators. You are responsible for (a part of) the industrial process design of our new high precision metal parts.

Besides process specifications, you are together with the team, responsible for creating the functional specifications for equipment and tooling.

You are working within the field of cold forming on (sub)micro precision level applied for mass manufacturing environments, using state of the art equipment.

Your work will stretch out across all fields of production: from designing and drawing tooling, to testing said tooling, to measuring the produced samples, and finally to analyze the results.

Main tasks:

The following main tasks are relevant for this job:

  • Pre-develop critical (break-through) cold forming building blocks – including tooling

  • Understand and anticipate on interactions between process, materials and product requirements

  • Develop cold forming process-layout based on simulations (finite element method) by using a digital-twin model of the manufacturing process

  • Apply digital-twin ‘robust optimization’ to speed up towards a capable process

  • Define and execute experiments during all phases of the process development chain, including measuring and evaluation of results During your work within the team, you will grow within your strengths, combining your competence with strength of the team.

Profile:

  • Academic degree in preferably Mechanics, Physics or Material science.

  • Feeling and passion for precision metal working and geometrical measurements.

  • Knowledge or affiliation of Finite Element Modeling, MATLAB, CAD.

  • Excellent analytical skills.

  • Hands on, fast learning on the job.

  • Decisive, result driven and creative team player.

  • Ability to communicate on different levels (direct colleagues, management, technical specialists, production, external suppliers).
