Carry out industrial research in advanced technological areas on issues for which empirical evidence may have been found, but have basically yet to be proven, or to find new principles or solutions where current technologies fail.


An overview of your tasks:

  • Assess systems and flows of data on data protection
  • Define privacy requirements for research projects, including privacy-by-design architecture;
  • Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments to help projects assess and mitigate risks related to processing personal data;
  • Consultancy to research projects and management with respect to privacy;
  • Implement and review processes for (personal) data transfers into and out of Philips (quarantine, de-identification, re-coding);
  • Business risk management: increasing privacy measures could lead to extremely high cost levels.

A balance must be struck between expected risks and the involved costs;


More specifically:

  • Creatively architect and deploy new processes, services, templates and procedures that meet strict compliance requirements while facilitating innovative research activities in a timely fashion;
  • Champion Philips Privacy values while simultaneously maximizing the company?s use and re-use of data in compliance with the Philips rules, international laws and practices;
  • Monitor law and regulations related to privacy and anticipate on relevant changes;


General Skills:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong technical skills (application and operating system hardening, vulnerability assessments, security audits, intrusion detection systems, firewalls, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of technology-related law and public policy experience, clinical research and related issues


Professional Certification or Experience:

Certified International Privacy Professional Certification or equivalent preferred


Candidate profile:

  • Minimum 3 or more years experience in legal, privacy, compliance and regulatory areas, preferably in the medical device industry
  • Familiarity with GDPR/EU 95/46, ePrivacy Directive, FDA and FTC regulations, Dutch Data Protection Directive, HIPAA, PIPEDA, US Patriot Act, British Columbia Act 73, Breach Notification laws, ISO and other standards bodies and international standards
  • Bachelor's degree in technical/privacy or regulatory/legal area
  • Familiar with network, system, and telecommunication security
  • Proven technical writing and oral presentation skills
