Mechanical Engineer – Grooming & Beauty

Location: Drachten, Netherlands

Duration: 12 months (with intent to extend)

Contract: via a Randstad company

Hours/week: 40

Salary Range: €4,500 - €6,000 gross per month

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

Shape the future of consumer care! You will work on the product development of high-volume Grooming and Beauty appliances—such as OneBlade, Shavers, Groomers, Epilators, and IPL devices—from initial design concepts all the way to mass production.

You are responsible for:

  • Mechanical Design & Material Selection: Designing and detailing mechanical components and systems in plastic and metal, selecting appropriate mass-manufacturing processes (injection molding, assembly tooling).

  • Advanced Engineering Analysis: Conducting predictive analysis, structural calculations, tolerance stacks (GD&T), and utilizing FEA (Ansys) or CFD analysis to solve complex mechanical problems.

  • CAD Modelling: Creating and detailing high-quality 3D and 2D technical product specifications using Siemens NX and/or CREO, while archiving design files in Windchill.

  • Design for Excellence: Applying Design for Mass Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) requirements to ensure high-yield, high-efficiency production.

  • Risk & Requirement Management: Managing product requirements, leading DFMEAs, and following the structured V-model methodology.

  • Prototyping & Testing: Obtaining parts, building functional prototypes, writing test protocols, executing testing, and documenting proof in the Design History File (DHF).

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Acting as the technical counterpart for commercial managers, system architects, electronic engineers, and offshore development partners to realize highly attractive consumer products.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of proven experience in the mechanical product development of consumer goods (B2C) for mass production.

  • CAD/PLM Tools: Highly skilled in Siemens NX and/or CREO; experience with Windchill is a distinct advantage.

  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Strong understanding of plastics injection molding, metal stamping, and automated/manual assembly lines.

  • Simulation & Math: Practical experience with finite element analysis (FEA/Ansys) and/or computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

  • Mindset: A proactive, hands-on team player with an agile approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to balance raw innovation with practical realization.

  • Preferred: Design for Six Sigma (DfSS) Green Belt certification. Experience within a regulated space (like medical devices) is a plus.

In return, we offer you:

A path toward continuous growth at Philips' world-renowned innovation hub in Drachten. You will be part of an inclusive, diverse, and highly enthusiastic team of 20+ mechanical specialists working on global, life-enhancing consumer products.
