You will be working in the Electronics Design Services (EDS) group within the Quality and Reliability Engineering department of Innovation Engineering (part of Innovation and Strategy). In the EDS group, we deliver layout design, component management, CADE library part definition, and PCBA Technology services to Philips customers. Moreover, we strongly contribute to the development and roll-out of a PCBA platform within Philips. This is a standardized PCBA design platform with an integrated toolkit, including tools like Siemens Xpedition EDM, Valor (for DFA/M), Z-planner (PCB stack-up design), and TestWay (for DFT). Your customers will typically come from global Philips businesses needing advice during their electronic/PCBA layout architecture/design phase or with manufacturing/assembly challenges. As a PCBA Technology Expert, you will be part of a high-tech, innovative, and internationally diverse community with much room to develop yourself and others. We offer you the opportunity to be an ambassador of the PCBA Community of Expertise and to work as a recognized and trusted advisor.

The PCBA Technology Expert is an enthusiastic professional with deep and broad experience in all PCBA technology-related areas. From implementing design rules early in the design phase to overseeing manufacturing, the PCBA Technology Expert should provide clear advice in all applicable areas, including design, manufacturing, and assembly. An up-to-date overview of technology market trends, including aspects of sustainability impact in PCB and PCBA manufacturing, is very important. Smooth and clear communication with different stakeholders is essential in this role. Stakeholders can vary from layout designers, electronics designers, system architects, project managers, sustainability engineers, procurement engineers, PCB suppliers, and Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) contacts.

Typical activities:

  • Provide advice during architecture, electronic design, manufacturing, and assembly phases.

  • Design support (Design for Assembly/Manufacturability/Test (DfA/DfM/DfT)).

  • Align with PCB suppliers and EMSs about technical capabilities.

  • Maintain and develop internal PCBA design rules.

  • Collaborate with sustainability engineers to ensure alignment between sustainability impact factors and existing PCBA design rules (focused on yield and reliability).

  • Execute problem-solving activities (including experimentation).

  • Present or report results clearly and concisely with clear recommendations.

  • Maintain and extend customer and knowledge networks (inside and outside Philips).

  • Support the PCBA platform toolkit development (new capabilities, seminars, etc.).

  • Coach colleagues in the team.

The PCBA Technology Expert should have experience in work environments with similar stakeholder dynamics and the different technology areas involved. The role requires a team player and customer-focused attitude. They should be able to perform under pressure, especially for problem-solving projects. The PCBA Technology Expert should be a recognized and trusted advisor with a broad customer and knowledge network. They should have a BSc/MSc (or similar) degree in electrical engineering (or an equivalent background).

Expected Experience:

  • PCBA Technology specifics: PCB materials, flexes, surface finishes, shelf lives.

  • PCB Assembly aspects: components, pick & place, specials like press-fit.

  • Soldering approaches: solder pastes, stencil, cleaning.

  • Footprint definition, vias, test points.

  • PCBA testing: AOI, X-ray.

  • New technologies: inkjet, printed electronics.

  • Advisory role and consultancy skills.

  • Experience with manufacturing processes at PCB suppliers and PCB assembly manufacturers.

  • Experience with sustainability/environmental aspects of PCB/PCBA manufacturing.

  • Design support experience.

  • Problem-solving methodologies (8D, Greenbelt, or similar).

  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards (like IPC standards).

  • Knowledge of sustainability/environmental management systems (like ISO 14001).

  • Experience with project and team leadership is a bonus.

In return, we offer you:

For this project, you’ll work for Philips and become a contract or permanent employee of YACHT (a Randstad company). As a contractor at Philips, you'll enjoy cutting-edge challenges and unexpected experiences that make you a more in-demand professional.

Why work on a project at Philips?

If you’re looking for meaningful work and a chance to tackle complex challenges, broaden your skills and expertise, and become an even more sought-after professional, you’ll find all that and more with project work at Philips.

Randstad is responsible for finding talent to provide services at Philips. If you are selected to provide services for Philips, you will be employed by Randstad and will not be an employee of Philips.

Response to application will take place in week 33.
