Your challenge

Are you passionate about applying electronic components in real products—not just selecting them, but understanding how they perform across design, manufacturing, and lifecycle?  As a PCBA Component Engineer, you strengthen Philips’ global component engineering capability by enabling engineering teams to make robust, compliant, and future-proof component choices. You combine strong component application knowledge with a data-driven way of working, leveraging automation and AI tools to improve quality, efficiency, and scalability.  You are part of a dedicated PCBA competence team within Electronic Design Services (EDS), working closely with Philips businesses worldwide.

Within EDS (your core team): - PCBA Component Engineers - PCBA Technology Experts - PCBA Layout Design Engineers

With Philips businesses (your customers): - Electronic Design Engineers - LCM Engineers - Procurement

You act as the component engineering expert across organizational boundaries, contributing to a shared design responsibility model and enabling balanced decisions across functionality, lifecycle, manufacturability, and supply robustness.

Your responsibilities

  • Support engineering teams in selection and application of electronic components

  • Translate functional and system requirements into robust component choices

  • Advise on alternatives, substitutes, second sources, and design trade-offs

  • Provide insight into specifications, reliability, and application constraints

  • Support NPI and Lifecycle Management (LCM) projects - Perform BOM analysis (EOL, availability, compliance risks)

  • Ensure compliance with RoHS, REACH and export control regulations

  • Apply knowledge of export control and international sanctions frameworks (e.g. EAR, ITAR, EU Dual-Use, OFAC) to support compliant component selection

  • Develop and apply multi-sourcing strategies to ensure product readiness, supply resilience, and global market access

  • Contribute to root cause analysis for component-related issues

  • Ensure high-quality, structured component data in PLM systems (e.g. Windchill)

  • Work extensively with Excel for analysis, validation, and data structuring

  • Process and transform data across tools and formats

  • Automate repetitive engineering tasks using Python or similar scripting

  • Drive improvements in data consistency, reuse, and scalability

  • Actively use AI tools such as Copilot, ChatGPT, Kairos, Claude in daily work

  • Apply AI to accelerate data analysis and workflows, support decisions, and automate reporting

We are looking for

  • BSc in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)

  • Hands-on use of AI tools (required)

  • Strong knowledge of electronic components and their application

  • Knowledge of derating in electronic design

  • Experience with BOM management and lifecycle processes

  • Strong Excel skills

  • Practical experience with Python or scripting

  • Experience with PLM systems (e.g. Windchill)

  • Knowledge of PCBA design and manufacturing processes

  • Knowledge of RoHS, REACH and export control

  • Knowledge of export control and international sanctions regulations (e.g. EAR, ITAR, EU Dual-Use, OFAC), with the ability to translate regulatory constraints into component selection decisions and multi-sourcing strategies

  • Experience with multi-sourcing strategies

  • Fluent in English

  • Analytical, data-driven, and engineering mindset

  • Pro-active, structured, and pragmatic
