Mechanical Development Engineer (Contract)


Location: High Tech Campus Eindhoven

Duration: 12 months (with possible extension and/or Philips transfer)

Hours/week: 40

Budget range: €3675 - 5000 per month


In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

Philips challenges you to use your Mechanical engineering expertise to model, design & implement, integrate & test some of the world’s most innovative healthcare products and manufacturing systems, within the Product and System Engineering department. 

The ideal candidate brings multiple years of experience in designing and engineering mechatronic equipment (preferably in Medical/Healthcare domain). 

This expertise needs to be applied in an environment with a variety of customers and projects, and where system thinking combined with a proactive attitude are vital for success. Your contributions will focus on creating detailed (new) product designs or solutions that are suitable for scale-up and volume production. Included as well is the creation of necessary technical product documentation. You will work under the guidance of a senior technical lead.

You will be responsible for:

  • You will be responsible for detailing the mechanical solutions provided to you via a technical lead in multi-disciplinary and cross-functional projects, which typically have a mid- to long-term character, are complex, and can be divided in several sub-projects for the creation of subsystems. This also requires basic knowledge of and collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines like: dynamics, thermal, electronics and software.

  • You will be part of internal and external mechanical design sub-teams. 

  • You will work closely with the lead Mechanical engineer and/or the Project Manager.

  • Maintaining an effective network with customers and suppliers.



To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • A BSc or MSc degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in innovative product development, preferably including medical devices and -imaging.

  • Experience in translating global/conceptual designs into detailed designs including necessary technical product documentation, such as service manuals, assembly instructions, Bill of Materials, …

  • Proficient in 3D CAD, preferably Creo (Pro-Engineer) or NX Unigraphics.

  • Proficient in MS Office tools

  • Experience with Windchill PDLM and TeamCenter is a pré.

  • Special emphasis on basic understanding of mechanical design principles and analytical skills; demonstrated mechatronics background in combining mechanics with system engineering and other mechatronic disciplines such as fine mechanics, dynamics & control, thermal behavior/control, materials behavior, metrology (positioning and measurement).

  • Basic technical knowledge and experience with bringing medical products to the market, including knowledge of regulatory design- and safety standards, such as IEC-60601, ISO13485, FDA. 

  • Basic knowledge of design controls and risk management standards.

  • Basic understanding of design for quality aspects, testing critical to quality and regulatory requirements.
