Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Contract)

Location: Drachten

Duration: 12 months (with possible extension and/or Philips transfer)

Hours/week: 40

Budget range: €2.800 - 4.000 per month


In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

Designs, develops, evaluates, and conducts cost-effective, agile methods of testing new or adjusted software components and systems with an end-to-end, outside-in view representing the customers perspective. Tests functional and non-functional requirements both manual and/or automated. All in all a great role to further establish your career and to become part of an exciting Philips development team.

You will be responsible for:

  • Actively participating in multidisciplinary project teams through all phases of product development to ensure successful execution of innovative and best-in-class designs.  

  • Creating/defining the necessary tools and test plans for conducting firmware testing and hardware design verification.  

  • Generating test cases for both hardware design verification and firmware testing.  Working closely with firmware, hardware, and requirements engineers to ensure optimal test coverage.  

  • Working closely with test technicians executing test cases to ensure they have the correct tools and understanding of the test cases.  

  • Developing new processes and tools to speed the testing process (e.g., automated testing).  

  • Creating production functional test specifications for both subassemblies and final assembly.  

  • Performing root cause analysis to enhance the ongoing quality of products. 


To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • You will need a customer-first attitude and the following   

  • Detail-oriented and continuous improvement mindset.  

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  

  • 3years of test experience (embedded firmware test, hardware design verification, and production electrical test).  

  • 3 years of experience in creating and managing the execution of test plans for electronics design with embedded firmware.  

  • Experience using a Requirements Management tool, such as DOORs, for requirements and test cases management.  

  • Working knowledge of test equipment (e.g., scopes, data acquisition systems, communication analyzer, spectrum analyzer, etc.). 

  • Experience designing automated tests for FW verification.  

  • Regulatory/safety knowledge (CEC, CE, UL, CEA, etc.) is preferred.  

  • Knowledge of Bluetooth Low Energy specification, RF tests, and test equipment is preferred.  

  • Experience in FDA regulated industry, oral healthcare is preferred. 

  • Experience with ST and Infineon/Cypress microcontrollers is preferred.  

  • Fluency in English.
