Role: Design Technologist

Contract: Via Randstad (Possibility of extention/transition)

Your Role:

Shape the next generation of user experiences for Azurion Eye by working at the intersection of experience design and software development. You will turn concepts for AI-enabled workflow orchestration, adaptive interfaces and data-fusion experiences into working prototypes that clinical users, designers, engineers and business stakeholders can experience, evaluate and improve. Through rapid experimentation, you will help the team reduce technical and usability risk early and make better-informed product decisions for complex image-guided therapy workflows.

Your team:

The IGT Systems R&D Design team, a global team of UX, product and service designers within the Philips Experience Design community. Based in Best (NL) and India, the team shapes experiences across IGT Systems innovations and product lines. In this role, you will be embedded in the Azurion Eye program and work closely with development squads and adjacent platform teams. You will report to the Design Director IGT Systems.

Key Responsibilities & Competencies:

At Philips, we follow a human-centred design process that includes analysis, exploration, storytelling, concept design, prototyping and usability testing. As Design Technologist for the Azurion Eye program, you will bridge experience design, software architecture and development. You will combine creative coding, interaction design and systems thinking to make new workflow concepts tangible, while working closely with UX designers, researchers, clinical experts, software engineers, architects and product managers.

  • Rapid Prototyping & Creative Coding: Build high-fidelity, functional prototypes for AI-enabled interfaces, adaptive layouts, and data-fusion workflows to make complex concepts tangible and testable.

  • Bridge Design & Engineering: Partner with UX designers, software engineers, and architects to align user experience intent with technical capabilities and platform architecture.

  • De-Risk Product Decisions: Conduct rapid build-test-learn cycles with clinical users to expose assumptions, test dependencies, and validate usability before production coding.

  • Workflow Orchestration & Systems Thinking: Simplify complex medical workflows, reduce cognitive load, and streamline controls across the connected Azurion Eye ecosystem.

  • Design Systems & Reusable Assets: Contribute code components, interaction patterns, and prototype assets adhering to the Philips Design Language System.

  • Knowledge Transfer & Documentation: Document technical insights, prototype decisions, and learning outcomes to ensure smooth handoff into final software development.

  • Emerging Tech Adoption: Leverage AI-assisted tools, generative AI, and agentic interaction patterns responsibly to accelerate exploration and coding.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Communicate transparently within multidisciplinary teams (researchers, clinical experts, product managers) and share best practices across the global design community.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • 3+ years in UX Engineering, Design Technology, or Front-End Development (or a hybrid role), with a relevant degree (HCI, CS, Design, Engineering) or equivalent experience.

  • Must showcase functional prototypes or shipped web applications, detailing the problem, technical approach, and key learnings.

  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, HTML/CSS, Git/GitHub, and VS Code.

  • Hands-on experience connecting front-end prototypes to APIs, live/simulated data feeds, and AI services.

  • Experience taking Figma components/specs and translating them into working, production-ready code patterns.

  • Track record of prototyping AI-driven workflows (including human oversight and edge cases), ideally for complex or regulated systems (healthcare/MedTech preferred).

  • Skilled in rapid build-test-learn cycles, cross-functional teamwork (UX, Engineering, Clinical), accessibility standards, and fluent English.

If you are willing to to influence on the future Azurion Eye experience, combining advanced prototyping, AI-enabled interaction and design-system development in a clinically meaningful context, then apply before September 28, 2026.
