Role: Computational Modeling Engineer - Mechanical

Contract: Via Randstad

Duration: 1 year ( Extension/Transition expected)

Your Role:

As a Computational Modeling Engineer, you will be part of the Innovation and Design community within Philips. Leveraging your background in either (bio)physics, mechanics, or computational modeling, you will contribute to the development of innovative medical device solutions across the health continuum. Your work will provide deep physical insight and predictive capability, enabling informed design decisions and accelerating R&D through advanced simulation and virtual prototyping.

Computational (bio)physics plays a key role at Philips in de-risking innovation, reducing development time, and strengthening propositions through simulation-driven innovation grounded in physical mechanisms. In this role, you will apply state-of-the-art modeling techniques to real-world engineering challenges in healthcare.

Your responsibilities

  • Contribute to research and development projects through advanced computational modeling and simulation.

  • Develop, apply, and validate physics-based models to support design, optimization, and decision-making.

  • Co-develop and strengthen the computational (bio)physics competence within the team.

  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in modeling methodologies, numerical techniques, and simulation tools.

  • Explore and support new propositions across our businesses of image-guided therapy, precision diagnostics, patient monitoring, and personal care, translating application needs into modeling strategies.

Your team:

You will join the Computational Modeling team, consisting of specialists with expertise in multiphysics, biophysics, solid mechanics and fluid dynamics. The team is based at the Philips High Tech Campus in Eindhoven and supports Philips businesses globally. We operate across the entire health continuum, providing deep physics insight, simulation-driven innovation, and virtual prototyping capabilities to a wide range of Philips products.

Our offer:

We offer a challenging and intellectually stimulating environment within a leading health technology company. You will work alongside highly skilled experts, tackle complex and meaningful problems, and have strong opportunities for technical and personal development in an innovative, collaborative setting.

We are looking for:

To be successful in this role, you bring a strong scientific background combined with a hands-on interest in applying modeling to real-world engineering challenges. You have:

  • Preferably a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Applied Physics, or a closely related field, with a focus on computational modeling and simulation.

  • A solid foundation in physics-based and mechanistic modeling of solid mechanics or dynamics.

  • Experience translating simulation results into clear, actionable insights for engineering and R&D stakeholders.

  • An innovative and analytical mindset, with curiosity for new modeling approaches and applications.

  • A proactive, flexible attitude and the ability to take ownership of technical challenges.

  • Experience with commercial and/or open-source simulation tools is preferred, such as Marc-Mentat, ANSYS, Abaqus, OpenFOAM, Comsol.
