Analytical Chemist LC-MS
Your Challenge
As a Analytical Chemist, you are responsible for providing expert advice, offering ad-hoc support, developing customized analytical methods, and performing practical material characterization. Your in-depth knowledge of chemistry and analytical techniques is essential to ensure the quality, safety, and compliance of Philips’ medical devices and personal health products.
For this particular role, we are looking for a candidate with experience in LC-MS to strengthen this expertise within the team and meet the growing demand in the relevant business units.
Your Responsibilities
include but not limited to:
Performing expert analyses of polymers, coatings, adhesives, and other materials using advanced analytical techniques such as LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, FTIR, UV-Vis, DSC, TGA, with a strong focus on LC-MS.
Building and maintaining a strong network within relevant fields.
Collaborating intensively with other (technical) disciplines, regulatory experts, biocompatibility specialists, toxicologists, and external parties to translate chemical insights into practical solutions.
Advising on chemical compatibility, contamination, degradation mechanisms, and lifetime performance of materials used in consumer and medical devices.
Developing and validating analytical methods tailored to specific project needs and material types, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility.
Regularly benchmarking results against current scientific literature to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with the latest developments.
Documenting findings in clear, concise reports and presenting results to stakeholders.
Staying up to date with relevant chemical regulations (e.g., REACH, RoHS, FDA) and supporting compliance efforts, including documentation for audits and certifications.
Contributing to continuous improvement of laboratory practices, safety standards, and knowledge sharing within the group.
To succeed in this role, you bring:
A Master’s or PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a closely related field.
At least 3-5 years experience in the field of analytical chemistry or at 1-3 years specific on the LC-MS part.
Proven experience with a wide range of analytical techniques, such as LC-MS, GC-MS, FTIR, UV-Vis, DSC, TGA, and spectroscopy.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret complex datasets and translate them into actionable insights.
Familiarity with polymers, coatings, adhesives, and their chemical behavior is a strong plus.
Experience in method development, validation, and documentation according to industry standards.
Knowledge of chemical safety, risk assessment, and relevant regulations (e.g., REACH, RoHS).
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and present findings to stakeholders.
A proactive, hands-on attitude combined with a collaborative mindset, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently in a dynamic, fast-changing environment.
Fluency in English; Dutch is a plus but not required.

The Philips Physics, Materials & Chemistry Group (PM&C) in Drachten, the Netherlands, is a team of highly qualified experts in various competencies that are crucial for the medical business groups and Personal Health Businesses.
The experts work closely in a network with product developers, industrial designers, marketing managers, external partners, and innovative suppliers. PM&C supports the various Philips product categories worldwide in exploring and developing new technologies that enable new product features and is organized around competencies, with two expert groups.
One of these expert groups is the Chemistry & Polymers group. The competencies within this group are Applied Chemistry, Material/Chemical Analysis, and Materials, Form & Finishing Technologies.
The Chemistry & Polymers group consists of about 20 colleagues with a diverse and international background, ranging from vocational education to PhD level.
